The statue is mentioned by Winckelmann, who died 1768, as being in the Villa Medici; it passed from there to the Uffizi, in 1796 to the Villa Poggio Imperiale and in the 19th century to the Palazzo Pitti (cf. Duetschke, p. 25; bibl.).
